About Madrona Hill B&B

Lose yourself in the wooded area around our bed & breakfast — Madrona Hill Bed and Breakfast is a geodesic dome on Orcas Island with an adjacent loft house, surrounded by madrona trees.

We emphasize relaxation and appreciation of the outdoors. Spread throughout the house are unique touches, including maps and photos of the island, and star shaped skylights so you can appreciate the sky from the comfort of the couches and reclining chair.

Outside, the wraparound deck offers expansive views, including a distant view of the water and stunning views of the sunsets over the Olympic mountains.

You can take a relaxing walk along the forested lane around the valley, or to the pond. The Victorian Valley Chapel is just a five-minute walk from here.

It's a great place to watch and listen to the birds, and there are pleasant surprises, like deer grazing in the meadow, and a carved bear and owl near the road.

Delicious breakfasts, with vegetarian and vegan options, are served, and coffee and specialty teas are always available. The downstairs includes a cozy seating area near the woodburning stove, and ample room for both group seating and privacy. The dining table seats eight, and there is a cafe table for games or writing.

You can bring or rent bikes and tour under your own power, or drive around the horseshoe shaped island. In the town of Eastsound, about 10 miles away, you can browse in a bookstore, eat amazing bread, cheese and other treats from the bakery, and explore other shops.

There are numerous and diverse restaurants, some with live music. Another 5 miles along is Moran State Park which includes Mt. Constitution, the highest point in the San Juans. Views on the road up and from the top are breathtaking, including islands and mountains of the US and Canada. The park offers extensive hiking options, from relaxing strolls in the forest or along lakesides, to a challenging hike to the top of the mountain, elevation almost 2500 ft.

Whether you come to Orcas Island to just kick back and relax, or to partake in the many adventures in the San Juan Islands, Madrona Hill is a relaxing retreat and a convenient home base.
